How a law firm using Casey texts its clients
Casey is practice-management software for small law firms. A firm can text its own clients four things about their case, and nothing else:
Court messages carry a date, a time and a courtroom; payment messages an invoice number, an amount and a date. Nothing is promotional, and nothing is sent that the client did not agree to at intake. Messages are sent from +1 (844) 651-9481and are signed with the firm’s name.
Your Law Office: Your court date is Wed, Oct 21 at 9:00 AM — Bound Brook Municipal Court, Courtroom 2. Reply STOP to opt out.
Your Law Office: Reminder — you have court tomorrow, Wed, Oct 21 at 9:00 AM — Bound Brook Municipal Court, Courtroom 2. Reply STOP to opt out.
Your Law Office: The court has adjourned your matter; we will text you the new date once it is confirmed. Reply STOP to opt out.
Your Law Office: A reminder that invoice INV-0007 for $450.00 is due Oct 20. Questions? Call the office. Reply STOP to opt out.
Consent is given verbally, in person or on the phone, when the firm takes a client on, and recorded in Casey at that moment by the person who heard it. Before switching texting on for a client, the firm asks:
“Is it OK if we text you at this number about your case — court dates, a reminder the day before, updates from us, and reminders when a payment is due? Message frequency varies with your case and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP any time to stop, HELP for help.”
Only then does the firm tick the box on the client’s intake record. This is what that control looks like in Casey:
Ask: “Is it OK if we text you at this number about your case — court dates, a reminder the day before, updates from us, and reminders when a payment is due? Message frequency varies with your case and message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP any time to stop, HELP for help.”
Consent is not a condition of representation. No one is texted without it: the app refuses to send to a client whose record has no consent on file, and a client who later replies STOP is not texted again even if the box is still ticked.
Phone numbers and consent are used only to send these messages and are never shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. See the Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Questions: desaiparth059@gmail.com.
